POLLY MONEY ROOMMATE

Polly Money opens up her year with ‘Roommate’, a “song for the hopeless romantics.” It’s an intimate piece of sticky-sweet alternative pop, which expresses the “undeniable need to spend all of your hours lost in the person you love. Their place or yours it doesn’t matter as long as you are waking up next to them. It’s the surprise late night turn ups, it’s the falling head over and it’s wanting to build a home together.” Singing in her Swimming Girls-esque tone over dreamy strings and a driving-home drum progression, Polly Money confesses “I don’t want to sleep alone, / So do you want to be my roommate, / Three days a week? / The other four / I can stay at yours.” The recipient of Polly Money’s need hardly any more convincing than the nineties aesthetic and swooning melodies brought to the fore of ‘Roommate’. - Hannah Thacker
